GAS-LTU will participate in two educative and outreach events of the European Space Agency (ESA) in September and October.
The first one, is an activity within the European Space Talks Program, called “A “other worlds” piece on Campus” that will take place on September 27th. GAS Ph.D. Abhilash Vakkada will invite Campus students to know a unique facility –the SpaceQ Chamber- to recreate planetary environments and learn about key concepts of space exploration as planetary protection or in situ resources utilization. This activity is the only one inside the 2019 Space Talks Program planned in Sweden. This activity is also part of the Researcher’s Week organized by Teknikens Hus.
Additionally, the Luleå Tekniska Universitet or Luleå University of Technology (LTU), has been one of the European Space universities invited by ESA to be part of Europe’s Next Space Generation Debate which will take place on October 8th in the Hörsal A109. ESA has invited all Universities with a Space curriculum to remotely connect with HEC Business School and ESTACA Engineering School, in Paris, where almost 2000 Aerospace students will be attending. This event is also part of the European Space Talks, a pioneering awareness campaign inviting the space community to share their space projects and related benefits with our citizens. ESA is proposing a digital Space Talk dedicated to the next generation. Students around Europe and beyond will remotely connect and debate about future Space activities that will be discussed at the upcoming Space19+, the ESA meeting at ministerial level.
The program is interactive and full of surprises. The opening starts at 18:00 and will be broadcasted live, followed by an open debate. Participants will also connect live with ESA Astronaut Luca Parmitano, during the Beyond mission on the International Space Station. On-line voting to collect the students’ views and produce a set of recommendations that will be presented to European Ministers at Space19+, in Seville, Spain, next 27 - 28 November 2019 will conclude the evening. The event will be broadcasted jointly together with the LTU Kiruna Campus to involve LTU space students in the debate too.
